Sonny Rollins Tribute

Creative Sanctuary honors the late great saxophone colossus with a program of music he performed over his 60-plus year career, including his compositions as well as standards. Rollins was constantly evolving, challenging himself to play in new ways, sometimes “every night,” as he once said. The show will discuss his influences, honor different stylistic approaches he took at various points, as well as discuss and honor his myriad influences, from his primary tenor inspiration Coleman Hawkins to free jazz innovator Ornette Coleman.
