About this event
Hands-on three-hour sand casting workshop with Tova Lund at Phosphene. Learn fundamentals of sand casting: what makes a good object for casting, preparing a successful mold, packing sand, creating gates and vents, and safely melting and casting metal into a mold. Brief coverage of cleanup and finishing; main focus is molding and casting. Sand casting is fun and quick but not always precise — expect texture and variation. Wax models and natural/found objects provided; participants encouraged to bring small objects (selection details sent upon registration). Materials provided including bronze for practice; bring your own silver casting grain/scrap if desired. Limited to 4 students.
