Giant Steps: 100 Years of John Coltrane

Celebrate 100 years of John Coltrane with Humboldt jazz group After Hours at the Arcata Playhouse, five days before the centenary of his birth. Ramsey Isaacs (drums), Matt Seno (piano) and Lee Phillips (bass) are joined by Russ Thallheimer on tenor saxophone, with tap dancer Miles Schmidt sitting in on "Equinox." Program draws from Coltrane's early and middle years: selections from "A Love Supreme" (possibly the whole album), "Giant Steps," "Naima," "Blue Train" and more. After Hours sold out this room last December with their Vince Guaraldi show. First of five nights at the Playhouse running September through January. Doors 6:30 p.m., music 7:00-9:30 p.m. All ages.
