Ma-le'l Dunes Cooperative Management Area is a 444-acre coastal dune preserve on the North Spit of Humboldt Bay, about a mile north of Manila. The northern section is part of Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) and the southern section is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, with trails for hiking, dog-walking and horseback riding. Friends of the Dunes runs restoration workdays, guided walks and educational programs here, and it is a designated National Natural Landmark known for native dune plants like the endangered Humboldt Bay wallflower.
