The Sanctuary is an arts-based community center and 501(c)(3) nonprofit housed in the historic 1916 Arcata Women's Clubhouse at 1301 J Street. Dedicated to creative growth through artful living, it operates as a gallery, artist residency, library, music venue and workshop with labs for ceramics, printmaking, textiles, small metals, book arts, woodworking, music recording, bicycle repair and more. The volunteer-run center hosts workshops, performances, exhibitions and weekly Open Labs, and is currently closed for renovation after severe weather damage in November 2024 while continuing off-site programming.
