Sequoia Park Zoo is California's oldest zoo, founded in 1907 on six acres within Eureka's 60-acre Sequoia Park surrounded by old-growth coast redwoods. The AZA-accredited zoo is home to over 150 animals from 50+ species — including red pandas, river otters, bald eagles, spider monkeys and black bears — and features the Redwood Sky Walk, the longest sky walk in the western U.S. at nearly 1/4 mile and 100 feet above the forest floor. Popular habitats include the award-winning Watershed Heroes with otters and native fish, the Bear & Coyote habitat, the free-flight Nancy Hilfiker Aviary and the hands-on Barnyard, with education, conservation and seasonal events like Zoo Lights and OktoBEARfest.
