La Ciendita is a Chicano family-owned marketplace, gallery and community space at 655 9th Street in Arcata, a block from the Arcata Plaza next to the fire station. Opened in October 2024 by Vanessa Olivera and Octavio Acosta and named for Olivera's great-great-uncle's ranch in Coalcomán, Michoacán, it offers Latine-inspired art, books, jewelry, herbs, tea, plants, soaps and goods by local BIPOC creatives. Described as "a casita away from your casita," it functions as a boutique, gallery and lounge that hosts cultural events and provides a home for the local comunidad.
