Carlson Park is a 19-acre City of Arcata park in the Valley West neighborhood along the Mad River, the city's only public river access within city limits. Deeded to the city by CalTrans in 2017 and redeveloped from a former gravel quarry with $2.4 million in grants, it reopened in September 2024 with a playground, pickleball courts, riverside trails and non-motorized boat launch infrastructure in riparian habitat, with planned skate features and EV charging.
