About this event
The Lost Coast Lectures series returns, presented by Friends of the Lost Coast and BLM King Range, with a fall slate highlighting local work of the USGS. On Wednesday, November 18 at 6pm, USGS bat ecologist and acoustics specialist Bethany Schulze presents 'Bats and Their Amazing Movements, From the Lost Coast to Offshore and Beyond!' a virtual talk on monitoring bats along the Lost Coast and other coastal Humboldt County sites, including acoustic detector deployments on coastal and offshore rocks and islands and use of the Motus Wildlife Tracking System. The lecture covers bats' roles in pest control, pollination and seed dispersal, the stressors they face (habitat loss, disease, wind turbine fatalities), and the latest tracking results. A Zoom link will be posted in advance at lostcoast.org.
