The Ying Quartet is a Grammy Award-winning American string quartet formed in 1988 at the Eastman School of Music, where its members serve as quartet-in-residence. Comprising violinists Robin Scott and Janet Ying, violist Phillip Ying, and cellist David Ying, the ensemble is celebrated for brilliantly communicative performances and a fearlessly imaginative approach to chamber music, performing everywhere from major concert halls to schools, workplaces, and prisons. Its ongoing LifeMusic commissioning project has produced new works by composers such as Billy Childs, Lera Auerbach, and Lowell Liebermann, and its recordings include American Anthem and a Grammy-nominated set of the Tchaikovsky quartets. The quartet also serves as ensemble-in-residence at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
