Whit Smith

Whit Smith is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known as a founding member of the Austin-based Western swing trio Hot Club of Cowtown, with whom he has toured and recorded for nearly three decades. A native of New England, he settled in Austin, Texas in 1997 and built a reputation for driving rhythm playing and inventive harmonic phrasing rooted in 1930s and 1940s jazz guitar. He leads his own projects, including Whit Smith's Hot Jazz Caravan, and released his debut solo album, On the Nature of Strings, in 2014. He is also an in-demand educator, teaching guitar master classes and workshops on western swing and hot jazz.
