Ultramafic

Ultramafic is an instrumental power trio from Arcata, California, playing fuzzed-out psychedelic stoner metal steeped in the geology of the Pacific Northwest. Guitarist Tom Norman, bassist Russell Stroud and drummer Kaito Figeira build long, riff-driven pieces that nod to space rock and garage prog, with songs named after rocks and volcanic forces. The band self-released a demo in 2015 and followed with the debut album Ultramafic in 2016, then Pyroclastic Flow (2019), a pair of improvisation volumes, and the full-length Caldera (2021), recorded at their own Xenolith studio. They are a fixture of Humboldt County's heavy music circuit, sharing bills with touring sludge and doom acts.
