The Rumba Madre

The Rumba Madre is an American World and Latinx Alternative band formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2018, now based on California's Central Coast. Led by Galician-Basque musician, filmmaker and Cal State Monterey Bay professor David Vila Diéguez with Rubén Darío Gómez and Benjamín Alejandro Delgado, the project fuses punk attitude with rumba flamenca, son, salsa, polka, tango, Galician folk, reggaetón and trap, delivered with satirical multilingual lyrics. Known for a theatrical live show with guitar, Cuban tres, bagpipes, tambourine and a homemade foot drumkit called the 'drumcycle,' they released the debut album Prisiones y Fugas in 2020 and recent singles including '¡Oh, San Juan!' and 'Abuela.'
