The San Francisco Mime Troupe is a Tony Award-winning theatre of political satire founded in 1959, known for creating original musical comedies that combine commedia dell'arte, melodrama and farce with topical political themes. Despite its name, the group does not perform silent mime but presents a working-class analysis of social and economic injustice with humor and live music. The democratically-run, worker-owned collective performs free shows in Bay Area parks each summer and tours nationally and internationally.
