On The Levee Jazz Band

On The Levee Jazz Band is a New Orleans-based traditional jazz group organized by drummer and leader Hal Smith, dedicated to the music of Kid Ory and his Creole Jazz Band. Taking its name from the San Francisco nightclub Ory owned between 1958 and 1961, the band performs revival-era New Orleans jazz with danceable tempos, swinging rhythm, and careful attention to dynamics. The lineup features trombonist Clint Baker alongside a rotating cast of New Orleans' finest players, including pianist Kris Tokarski and bassist Joshua Gouzy, whose Ed Garland-inspired playing anchors the rhythm section.
