Mark Karwan

Mark Karwan is a bassist based in Bend, Oregon, known for his work on both upright and electric bass across jazz, funk, soul, rock, bluegrass and Americana. A graduate of SUNY Buffalo with a degree in electric bass performance, he also studied at New York's Bass Collective and spent years as a first-call player in the Buffalo and New York scenes, including a Broadway run with In the Heights. Since relocating to Central Oregon he has become a staple of the region's music community, performing with Watkins Glen, Quattlebaum, the Jenner Fox Band, the Maxwell Friedman Group, Elektrapod and the Alicia Viani Trio, among many others. Blending deep grooves, improvisation and rich vocal harmony, he is equally at home in jazz trios, folk listening rooms and full-band roots-rock shows.
