Jazz Jam
The Northtown Coffee Jazz Jam is a free weekly community open jazz jam in Arcata, Humboldt County, held every Sunday 5:30-8:30 PM at Northtown Coffee and running for over ten years. Originated as 'Jazz Club' by HSU drummer Thatcher Norton at Blondies (near Cal Poly Humboldt), it is now hosted by trumpeter Don Hammerstedt who 'handed the torch' when Norton moved on. The open jam welcomes all levels to play standards and improvise, with rotating instrumentalists and occasional tap dancer Miles Schmidt.
