Dean Johnson is a Seattle-based alternative country and indie-folk singer-songwriter whose late-in-life breakout made him one of the more compelling independent music stories of the mid-2020s. Long a hidden gem of the Pacific Northwest scene, he released his solo debut, Nothing for Me, Please, in 2023 before signing to Saddle Creek for the 2025 album I Hope We Can Still Be Friends. His high, rustic tenor—often compared to Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers—carries sharp, melancholic storytelling that pairs classic country warmth with dark comedy and unvarnished emotional candor. Recorded with producer Sera Cahoone, his songs range from stark solo performances to full-band arrangements.
